This was earlier known as Bute cottage or Bute villa, and was a farmhouse on Bute land and in the parish of Cogan.

Thought to be the oldest house in Penarth. Mark Brunel, son of the great Isambard Kingdom Brunel stayed there while working on the development of Penarth docks.
